106 Second Hover

We did a 106 second stable hover with the blue ball.
We also started working on the PAD forms for the LLC pads.
More info later...

Also started tweeting as unrocket

Will probably keep that up until the contest....
47 days and 6 testing weekends left.

paul, when you post these, can you tell us if you met the testing objectives? 106 seconds is great, was that the planned target?

Paul Breed said...

Te planned target was 95 to 100 seconds.

Carmack won. Space.com had a lot of previously unseen information. 1st the required engine performance is exactly what is required to land on the moon from lunar orbit. 2nd the required engine performance is almost enough for suborbital flights on Earth.

180 seconds was chosen to simulate the performance necessary to go to/from low Lunar orbit to a soft landing. Armadillo has done the task, if we or Masten can do the 180 second task with better accuracy before October 31st then we win.

Best of luck unreasonable men.

i don't think carmack really cares now if he wins or note. he met the mission objectives, he met them first, and he's already moving on. armadillo should get off the arocket list.

The whole time I've been on the arocket list it has been more about experimental rocket building and bullshitting about NASA than anything else.. and frankly, that's the way I like it.

Well done Paul - that is great news for your Level 1 attempt.

Have you made more progress with the Traversal and the rest of the flight profile?

BTW: As far as arocket is concerned. I like and appreciate the input and comments that Armadillo, Masten and Unreasonable provide on the list. I find their contributions very educational. I would hope they stay and continue along the lines of old.

Did you shoot video of the hover? I'm really curious. That's what I get for working rather than dragging myself out to FAR.
